If you are contemplating becoming a writer or extending your current authorship, I hope you will read this article and be encouraged by its message.

All too often an aspiring or current author will not fully understand the real world of writing and where a great deal of the content for publishing material can be obtained.

Education and knowledge is always one of the most important issues for success!

Prior to being educated and well-informed in writing methods, techniques and resources, I was amazed and in wonder how many writers were able to complete and publish so much material so often.

I am not implying that authors do not write material from their hearts and mind. I am simply stating a fact that many writers and publishers do dip into the bank of Public Domain content.

My Teachers did not discuss gathering subjects and topics from the works in the Public Domain. I only learned this from private educators that revealed a technique on how they obtain a great deal of their material and ideas.

When I realized thousands of mystery stories were partially based upon the ideas and subject matter of Sherlock Holmes, I was astounded. I became intrigued that the “Wizard Of OZ”, “Alice in Wonderland” and so many more being currently published were actually in the Public Domain and without Copyrights.

I wondered if that was plagiarism! No it was not! The content was in the Public Domain and free of copyrights. It is very interesting that when the material is currently published, the product produced is copyrighted as their own and new compilation.

I was rendered speechless when learning that Walt Disney actually built his empire based upon the Fairy tales and stories in the Public Domain.

Additionally, what might have been the greatest shock to me, was when I became aware of the many books published word for word from the Public Domain works that sell for Sixty Dollars and upwards.

Once I had this knowledge, I started acting upon obtaining material from the Public Domain.

That became another stumbling block. The information on how to obtain Public Domain works was not readily available.. It was not a ’secret’, but it was information that required digging along with abundant research.

Technology has finally helped to eliminate much of the research required to obtain Public Domain material.

Currently, it can be acquired and brought right to your computer desktop.

If you wanted to write a novel of 900 or more pages, you might just be able to achieve this in a few months or less by gathering the text and information from the Public Domain.

Now.. why is it, that this information was not included in the many writing courses and education I pursued?

Easy answer! It is the Protected territory and inside professional tricks that writers do not want to share with too many other authors.

After all, they don’t want their associate writers and friends to know where they capture their ideas and material content.

Yet, there is so much of the content available that if a writer lives to 400 or 500 years old, there still will be material that is untouched.
