Era Self Publishing Ebook Evolution

It is not uncommon to read articles asking questions with phrases such as “Are eBooks Dead” or “Are Books Dead “? These articles bear witness to the changing times for digital ebooks and physical books.

It is evident that e-Reader Devices, Smartphones, PDA’s and mobile Readers have increased their sales over the last years and months. Additionally, new best seller books are introduced into ebook releases in advanced numbers to satisfy consumer purchases. It is obvious ebooks trend higher than prior years.

The evolving direction toward digital text and content at this time is to obvious to ignore.

For folks like me, it was a gifted treasure that I was involved with digital ebooks since 1998 when education first took its online acceptance in larger numbers. It was then via the Internet schooling that ebooks proved its technological advancement and benefits, including price reductions.

I will discuss the Print On Demand Paper Back Self-Publishing in a different post.

In this article I will concentrate my discussion on digital ebooks relative to the latest e-readers that have been introduced to the marketplace.

Currently, there is a need for published works for the many “e-readers” (digital people readers) who are purchasing eReader devices.

This could not be a better time to become involved with the publishing of ebooks.

The most recent introduction to the Marketplace that sets greater competitive advancement comes from Barnes and Nobel.

Barnes and Noble e-Reader

Barnes and Noble “the Nook”, recently unveiled, their own e-reader to compete with Amazon’s Kindle.

B&N e-reader includes integrated Wi-Fi and the ability to share e-books with others using B&N’s PC, Mac or smartphone compatible software.

In addition, the Nook supports “epub”, a major open e-book standard, and PDF, which enables users to upload documents from a computer.

The Nook’s entry of the e-reader into the current market enables competition with Amazon’s Kindle.

The consumer and writer benefits from technological advances to e-readers including the eventual decrease for price in competitive price wars.

There are other companies such as Sony, Spring Design and IREX who may also benefit from the competitive market that B&N’s e-reader sets into play.

It is exciting to know that the Nook will soon have more than a million e-books for sale since they are already a book publisher and seller. Additionally, this will reduce the cost of publishing along with sales for an e-reader device.

Google Books is making available to Nook users, almost a half million free non-copyrighted books. Amazon’s Kindle cannot claim such numbers or no cost book capabilities as B&N e-reader. However, you can bet that Amazon will soon address the competition in some variant.

Amazon Kindle

While both Amazon and B&N use digital rights management technology to prevent e-book piracy, B&N has introduced sharing within its protected house. Nook users can lend an e-book to others for up to 14 days. Just like lending a paperback, the lender will not have access to the e-book while its being borrowed. Features that allow people to share e-books are considered an important step toward moving e-readers from mostly avid readers and business travelers and into the hands of mainstream consumers.

Another advantage of the Nook over Amazon’s Kindle, is limited, Wi-Fi capabilities.

The popularity of wireless enables B&N to offer Nook users to come into its stores, where they can use free Wi-Fi to browse available books with discounts and other promotions.

The Nook’s Wi-Fi and 3G wireless capabilities, provided by AT&T (NYSE: T), will only access B&N’s online properties in comparison to Amazon providing a 3G connection on the Kindle to buy books only from Amazon.

The Nook and the Kindle starting price at approximately $259 may still be too expensive for most readers.

Recognition that most consumers would not purchases these type devices until the e-readers have a starting price of $98 or less. Nevertheless, the popularity of e-readers among electronic book users sees a flourishing marketplace.

Forrester Research provided a report on September 2, 2009 that surveyed 4,706 US consumers.

“What we found was that the price points for how most consumers value eReaders is shockingly low–for most segments, between $50 and $99. (Currently, eReaders in the US are priced between $199 for the Sony Pocket Reader and $489 for the Kindle DX.)”

Forrester Research

“What this means: The maximum addressable market for eReaders as they are currently priced is substantial–but to reach the largest market possible, the prices will need to come way down. And even then, eReader are never going to be as big a market as mp3 players, which 110 million US consumers own.

But they will still have phenomenal social and economic impact as they catalyze a new behavior of digital reading across multiple devices. We’re just at the beginning of this revolution…

The profit and marketplace potential will surely see Amazon respond to B&N’s Nook e-reader….

Dear Visiting Friend,

If you are contemplating becoming a writer or extending your current authorship, I hope you will read this article and be encouraged by its message.

All too often an aspiring or current author will not appreciate the importance of their writing and its publishing.

Communiqué is an essential foundation for living life constructively. Education and knowledge is obtained from communicating, whether verbal or in the written word. It effectively shapes our life.

The greater percentage of our spoken words and habitat, most probably, derive from what we hear and read.

After all, we should appreciate the cycle of educational activity and how we evolve around our first read and written words.

Think of a world in which there are no writers. Without documented expression or declaration, could there even be a higher level of communication?

The written word is taken for granted by most of us and we move forward in our daily lives without the real considerations to the actual reality of writing.

I wish everyone would be a writer..

I don't mean that all people should write novels or plays or music. I simply mean that everyone has their own explanation, understanding and knowledge that should be shared with others who can benefit from your selective information or story.

Even if you decide against becoming a publishing author, you should consider writing your individual insightful knowledge.

It has become so easy to create your own articles and submit them to numerous 'Article Directories' at no cost to you. It is just as simple to create your own Blog on many of the FREE Blog Sites available.

As an example there is Blogger.com, WordPress.com, (Simply do a search for a list FREE Article Directories and Blog sites).

Below are some examples that express my viewpoint on why it is important for more individuals to write; and, at least publish their material in an Article or Blog format.

Firstly, continued writing is practice and practice we all know creates expertise.

Secondly, as an example circumstance, I will address the topic, 'Pets'. Many of us have and care for them. We spend time and money at pet stores including the Veterinary offices and hospitals where we learn a great deal about our pets.

Additionally, we gain knowledge from our experiences shared with our pets habits, illnesses, training and fundamental interaction in an animal to human relationship or vice versa.

I know I have experienced great happiness in my relationships with my pets. Additionally, I have also gone through deep sorrow and heartache loving and having pets.

I am positive that much of my knowledge about pets can assist others who may be searching for answers on special circumstances.

Yet, if I do not write or document this knowledge I will do little to help others who can enjoy benefits from my experiences.

Many people writing and networking can share their good and bad experiences with their pets via postings either to the Article Directories, Blogs or creating eBooks for digital download delivery or compiling the ebook to CD-ROM or DVD.

Their story or material content can be helpful and of great assistance to me and others who may experience similar circumstances or issues with their own pets.

Pet owners who may be contemplating cat or dog surgery on tumors so many times require feedback and information from others who have had the very same or similar illness.

Simple words described by a writer may be a great advantage to me and to others in when discussing puppy training or breeding pets.

Whether the circumstance may be a special situation to allergic reactions to pet medications or special tips writing and networking your knowledge can be of great importance in many events.

Therefore, please consider writing and expressing–in your style of communication–what most probably will be very important to someone else and benefit them greatly.

I encourage and urge you to write your material for what ever subject matter or topic it may be on and place it into the Internet Network.

I research extensively to find communication by others who can be informative and helpful to me.

As mentioned, publishing your content to any form of digital media will make a difference to many.

Your very important knowledge should be shared and made available.

There Are Many Subjects To Write About..

As another example, the keyword or phrase subjects regarding 'Parents' or 'Children' or even 'Baby' and 'Computers' topics, are very real needs for networking and communicating experiences.

I would like very much for you to seriously consider writing your very own eBook, Article, or Blog and share your experiences and knowledge.

Forums are an additional area to write content.

You can be the needle that sews the threads to complete a whole item, or the cog in a wheel that allows it to turn, or a piece to the puzzle that reveals the result, or the glass positively measured as half full rather than negatively half empty, or the sun partially shinning versus partially cloudy!

Because perception and communication is in the eyes of the individual, it is absolute per the expression writing and related words.

Any type, style or presentation of commentary, editorial or subject material with insightful communication that can inform other individuals of your education, thoughts, experiences, lessons, trials, teachings, eventful undertakings, mistakes, misfortunes, savings, feelings, objectives, worries, results and more which can help arm, protect, prepare and assist their endurance in similar events, hazards, occurrences, and more should be made available for readers or listeners.

Thirdly, there is no greater importance to the life we live while on earth than to give of ourselves…

1) Microsoft Office.
If you currently have and work with Microsoft Office, this application can be converted directly online with Amazon.com in the process of uploading your e-book content.

Amazon will convert your product to their required HTML format. There can be some editing required after the document is converted.

2) Open Office Suite(openoffice.org).
You can download FREE OPEN SOURCE SOFTWARE that will allow you to complete your writing and formatting tasks very easily.

This application is a premier office suite that is comparable to Microsoft Office. I believe this software is in many ways superior to MSO.

Open Office Writer allows an easy and simple export to PDF, HTML or .DOC format that is compliant when uploading your eBook to Amazon.

Additionally, from the standardized PDF format, you will be able to convert your work in compliance format for other style electronic device readers.

You must always plan and begin with a format that is compatible universally.

3) MOBIPOCKET Creator Software.
This is a free software application that includes the Mobipocket Emulator to test and preview the eBooks that you create on your computer.

There are over 120,000 titles with all major publishers available for the Mobipocket.

You can make your selection: searching for titles, authors, publishers, and categories.

You can I create your own eBooks simply by converting your Word, PDF, text, HTML and CHM documents or by downloading the Free MobiPocket Software Creator.

Writer’s Individualism Required

There is a need for volumes of information on the same topic, category, subject and issue from a variety of unique authors.

The magnificence of individualism is a declaration to narratives, tales, chronicles, journals, reports, articles, feature stories and manuscripts.

I am sure you have heard the adage, “All things to all people”.

If you have not heard the saying, that is OK, for my point is not if you have heard it, as much as the importance of the cliché, "All things and all people cannot be all things to all people".

Writers and readers follow the similar scenario.

Not all written, words in relationship to subject matter, can be all resources or gateways approachable and acceptable to all readers.

Respectively, if I were to state, “all writers can be all things to all readers”, I would be making an incorrect assertion.

Appropriately, this is the very need for volumes of information on the same topic, category, subject and issue from many different authors.

Each writer will make claim to their own opinion, write instruction, compose storytelling, defend philosophy, stand for an ideology and communicate expressive pronouncement in their individual wordage, style and technique.

Each reader in the same fashion will relate to their type, style and comfort level of interpretation when reading and understanding a message.

It is for this reason, "not all writers can be all things to all readers".

The magnificence of individualism is a declaration to narratives, tales, chronicles, journals, reports, articles, feature stories and manuscripts.

An individual writer will most probably leave unforgettable impressions upon their reader.

You will find there are people who recognize and relate to the visibility of your characters in fictional storytelling and nonfictional educational materials.

Asserting real personalities to your written opinions, issues, instructive and learning content is important in all styles and subject authorship.

Giving emphasis in written form to your sense of humor, unique comments, electrifying style, or an approach distinguishing you from an uncaring author, will develop relationships with your readers.

Although, when considering expressive wit and style, remember to never apply comedy of cultures as it may be an insult to another. Be sensitive to people in cultures you know very little about or are unfamiliar with traditions, customs, mores and their way of life.

How do you communicate your personality in your writing for a reader to actually visualize and envision it in their mind?

You can present your personality using words by expressing emotional and vivid tones of voice.

Conveying facial expressions can put across precise articulation allowing your reader to imagine a cool or warm mood or ambiance of an environment and or exciting characters.

If you write without feeling and set the scene without atmosphere or frame of mind, you will not succeed in removing the boredom that some writers put forward.

Additionally, a reader will see through any phony style you may adopt to create an image rather than a personality.

Consider your audience; and whether you are sincere in your communicative style.

Who are you audiences; and are you thoughtful, caring and understanding to your readers; or are you thoughtless, inconsiderate to their needs, and selfish to explicit time taken in expression when communication is required for their total comprehension?

By the use of research and visual communication via the written word, you will allow your readers to pass through and enter the doorway into your surroundings and situation.

Provide the key that turns a lock and opens the door for your readers to enjoy and sense the impression of your subject and character in atmosphere awareness.

Allow them to be virtually next to you when they read or listen and undergo your consciousness, thoughts, ideas, feelings, and intuition.

The benefit to your readers will be your reward when you can assist, affect, impress, and influence their reaction to your authorship.

How can you get started publishing your own products?

You can start publishing your own digital products either for Digital Downloadable Delivery or provide your published works on CD-ROM.

You can publish your books, manuals, manuscripts and more in either HTML executable or PDF format; or, you can provide your material in both types instead of only one style format.

In addition, you can consider providing your works in audio book format.

The future for digital and audio products is growing daily.

Sony, Adobe, Amazon and other companies envision the future of content in some form of digital delivery format whether it is for the iPhone, iPod, Blackberry, Kindle, or any other type device reader available.

Each new day brings forward a new development for some type of e-publishing content such as e-Paper…

You can realize many differences in films, videos and other media formats in addition to a future reality where the ebook or digital formatted book is inevitable.

Surely, as newer generations come on board in learning via digital formats and devices, you will recognize there are those that will not ever think to buy hard copy content; yet, they will quickly purchase subject matter in their favorite digital device format.

I can confirm with my own example of sales that 99.9% are in eBook digital delivery; and my statistical figures for eBook sales increase every month and year.

Digital downloadable delivery of products will continue to skyrocket for material delivered and read using various electronic devices.

A book is a book and will always be that.

An ebook will continue its metamorphic transformation because gigabytes of content with accessible bookmarks and hypertext links will revolutionize education and reading capabilities.

eBooks, ePaper and or other digital formats will never replace or be a substitute for hard cover or paperback books.

Nevertheless, our microwavable world with so much to do and learn in too little time will continue to motivate consumers and developers in providing instant gratification to our needs.

Expression in substance is a lifeline available for readers who can become leaders or persons who read and act upon the information or item feature, manuscript, or journal account.

The brilliance for individualism is an affirmation of writers for any style narratives, tales, chronicles, journals, reports, articles, feature stories and manuscripts.

Connect With Your Reader

What style and type of writing best serves you and your reader for both to bond as if to unite and virtually touch upon a clear interaction?

You as a writer want to hear your reader and your reader in the exchange wants to listen to you.

Or, at least that is what the ideal communication level should be.

One most important lesson I have learned when reading or listening to audio books, is that I can visualize the characters that I am listening to or reading about.

When I say ‘listening to’, I can be virtually reading and hearing the sounds and voices of the characters within the story. This is what I should be able to achieve if the writer has set the stage, purpose and intrigue, resolutions, answers and very nearly set me in the midst of the imagined environment.

Does it matter that I may be reading or listening to an audio novel or instructional material?

Typically, yes; that is if you are painting pictures of characters.

You would not want to color people in non-fiction educational material as you would in a setting for a story.

Nevertheless, although you may be the teacher in training materials; you should provide a profile and purpose behind your teaching that depicts your character.

Connection between the reader and writer are challenging and pleasurable to achieve.

Whether you write to convey information or acquaint a reader (or listener of audio) with emotion or fact makes no real difference in identifying a style for creating a relationship.

Coloring and flavoring expression in teaching; or in tale, narrative, account, chronicle, article, report, or even scoop will set you apart from what is enjoyable or unpleasant in reading and or learning.

Writing in combination with your personal and philosophical thought when storytelling can develop interaction and ideas that communicate special experiences and ideas, from concrete to abstract, from informality to intimacy.

If you are ready to begin or possibly having difficulty in starting your writing goals, get underway by commenting on an impressive and meaningful film or text chapter.

You could begin by writing what is interesting and relevant to you that you saw in an episode of one of your favorite movies or TV shows.

eBay discontines digital delivery listings

eBay announces a new policy discontinuing digital delivery item listings in auctions or fixed price formats. Moreover, eBay, effective March 31, 2008, will only offer promotion in classified ad format for Digitally Downloadable Delivered Products where no sales and or feedback take place.

If you happen to be a seller of info products, templates, eBooks or other type digital delivery items on eBay, this policy will affect you immediately.

Ebay’s announcement instructs Sellers to list Digital Delivery items in Category, [Everything Else], [Information Products] under [Classified Ad Format].

Those are straightforward instructions, if you can get it to work. It seems it works intermittently when testing and in reading others accounts.

eBay announced in early 2006 they were implementing an Auto Digital Delivery System for those selling and or offering digitally deliverable items. They even went so far as initially requiring payment via PayPal and Immediate Payment Only. That later was retracted due to conflicting processes. The fact remains that eBay will institute new procedures and policies, apparently, at the drop of a hat, with short-sighted-investigation into any actual reality of the policy and its effect on sellers as well as buyers.

I often wonder what qualifications Executives and Managerial Staff in Public or Private companies can own up to. Just how smart are they? eBay company and staff so many times reminds me of people sitting in rocking chairs. Always staying busy, but never going anywhere. Additionally, eBay jogs my memory of a tail wagging the dog instead of the dog wagging its tail!

Implementing a Digital Delivery System one year and then axing it the next with the lead time of a five day notice, surely, should represent and display a great deal of insight (could also be ‘incite’ because it inflames so many members);into eBay as a company.

The fact that eBay decided to implement new policy is not the real tribulation. What is so discouraging is the fact eBay gave such short notice to those reputable and long-standing members who have no part in any eBay shenanigans and policy manipulations.

What could have been eBay’s consideration to those that earn income to feed babies or put food on the family table; or for that matter of fact, senior citizens who pay utilities high-energy costs with the extra income earned from digital downloadable products?

Of course, there is always a work around; and, inevitably, there will be other alternatives when changes occur. This in reality is not as disastrous as when a tornado strikes without warning.

Frankly, an announcement with such major changes, in allowance for only five days notice, is not a realistic business action; At least, not by a highly regarded and community caring organization, in my humble opinion.

Stay tuned for some alternative action, you as a digital products seller can take immediately to prevent too much loss to income, as much as possibly feasible.

Ebook Smarts.. Formats HTML and PDF

This Blog originated for the reason that many readers of my training tutorial videos and ebooks, including articles and other blogs have requested I provide additional information on how they can also create and publish their own ebooks.

It seems as though many of you have purchased a few different type HTML ebook compilers and you are not obtaining the results you would like to.

Among the comments there are many who reference images and page formats included in the HTML executable style ebook.

Interestingly, there are more than a few of you that start off with a pre-written manuscript of, say, 250 pages plus. A number of you immediately follow the instructions to compile your Microsoft Word or Word Perfect document only to find that you cannot move forward or proceed to pages 2, 3 and more.

The reason for this is HTML format recognizes a whole document all as one individual page. More than likely if you scroll downward, you would then see your remaining content.

In comparison to PDF format, the entire document is recognized the same as you wrote it in page layout.

This, with greater frequency, is the more common reason you are not able to use the forward, backward, next and previous buttons to access consecutive or numbered pages.

There are a different ways in which to incorporate numbered pages when creating HTML format ebooks.

1. Prepare your pages with Hypertext Links and or Bookmarks access.

2. Set up your pages with a 6” x 9” layout allowing top and bottom margins for page numbered linking.

3. Set up your footer with a Next and Previous Button

4. Set up your footer to also include your Table of Contents.

Generally, if you have a pre-written page numbering manuscript, I recommend your eBook document is converted into a PDF format.

The reason for this is 99.9 percent of the layout and style will be retained. Therefore, you do not have to re-create your material.

There are many ways to include images and smarten up your PDF ebook to improve your overall presentation and conversion.

If you are writing and publishing an eBook from a pre-written 200+ page manuscript document, then you should seriously consider producing your product using the PDF format.

You can creatively insert images, tables and style sheet options to liven up your presentation.
